Terrain Talks #14. Reflections on the Frog Lake Avalanche Accident.

Share

Hello Everyone. Because this is one of the more timely talks I've hosted with the incoming storm to the PNW, I wanted to get this recording out right away in case it proves useful to anyone heading out this week. I will likely come back and add some thoughts in text, some links to resources, and some general editing as well. If you are just reading this in the email body, consider clicking through in a couple of days for the full version.

While the full accident report is not available, and in particular, we don't know much about the decision-making process, the Sierra Avalanche Center has provided some initial information that gives the terrain more context and nuance than in much of the initial reporting. Additionally, there has been better reporting recently, along with time to process, which has allowed me to reflect on the incident and, more importantly, provided me with some early takeaways that I want to share.
